Where the responsible-play tools stop and the reader's habits take over
The desk's biggest finding from writing the responsible-play pages is that the tools are necessary and not sufficient. A deposit cap with no pre-session routine is a setting; a deposit cap with a written pre-session routine is a habit. The gap between the two is where problematic sessions actually start.
What the desk is not
The desk is not a counselling service, a medical authority, or a regulator. The pages on this site describe tools and how to turn them on. If a reader is in crisis or feels they have lost control, the desk points to the public helplines and the state-level support resources at the bottom of the page.
What a reader can do today
- Open the platform you use most, set a session timer, save the change.
- Set a deposit cap that matches your weekly discretionary budget.
- Set a loss cap. The loss cap is half the deposit cap, by default.
- Write a pre-session routine on paper, with the four lines above.
